Another poem, not quite as old as the first.
"Undying Addiction"
You say goodbye
Cut the rope, sever the lifeline
It's over, beyond dead and done
Like time, simply past
What you needed has gone
It died when she changed
That which you lived for has
Disappeared, changed, transformed
Morphed into irrecognizable
But its a lie.
Nothing but a falsity told to appease
A sad joke to fake a smile
A farse gone awry
Because you still need what she had
It's the ultimate addiction
The craving that never ends, insastiable.
Inquentiable thirst; Cigarettes too short; Drugs too weak
The answer is always at the bottom of the glass
But yet so far away; drink another to get closer
The answer is in the ashes that drift
But yet still so far; smoke another, and one more
The answer is in the tiny pill
But yet so far away; take another
The answer is at the end of that powdery line
But yet sill so far; one more will take you closer
Until you realize, it will always be far away
Always so far
Beyond grasp, beyond sight
Because she changed, and changed it with her
Her growth was the death of what mattered most
Forever addicted to love scorned
The ultimate high, the chance of rapture, of bliss beyond imagination
Despite minuscule odds, the possibility exists
And as long as the chance lives
So shall my addiction
